Longtime Vikings Coach and Catholic High School Coaches Hall of Famer Gino D’Ambrosio Passes Away

A Huge loss!

Catholic Football Coach D’Ambrosio passed away on November 25, 2025, his family friend confirmed on Social Media.

His health reportedly started to decline right after his birthday, and he died peacefully at home under hospice care, with the family by his side.

Coach D’Ambrosis was a significant figure in high school football, whether as an assistant or a head coach.

D’Ambrosio was also a vital part of the Navity’s football legacy. Under his coaching, the Vikings competed at the top of the East Side second division.

During the 1962 season, the team finished second, just short of the title due to one fewer win.

A Standout Coach

He coached the Detroit Nativity for twelve seasons. The coach also spent time with Detroit Northeastern, Detroit Redford, and Hamtramck St. Stanislaus.

According to records, he had 75 wins, 49 losses, and 8 draws. Due to his ability to influence the game, he was also awarded Detroit Times Catholic League Coach of the Year.
