After earning his degree in education from Louisiana College in 1961, he had brief coaching stints at Marksville and Springhill.
In 1966, he made a pivotal move to his wife’s hometown of Haynesville, where he would cement his legacy.
Over 35 years as head coach, Franklin led the Haynesville Golden Tornado to 11 state championships, achieving a remarkable record of 366 wins, 76 losses, and 8 ties before retiring in 2002.
