Kentucky Somerset Athlete Wes Phillippe, 15, Dies From Cardiac Arrest, Parents Ben And Marissa Expresses Heartbreak

The mother of Wes Phillippe has changed her cover photo to a picture of her son on the wrestling field, honoring his memory.

A freshman from Somerset High, Wes Phillippe, 15, passed away on March 4, after collapsing during track practice on March 3 in Pulaski County.

An EMS report revealed that Somerset-Pulaski County emergency services received a call for advanced life support at 3:47 p.m. and arrived at Meece Middle School at 3:55 p.m.

Phillippe was unresponsive and lacked a pulse.

However, his condition showed signs of improvement when he was transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, arriving at 4:20 p.m.

Phillippe was later airlifted to UK Hospital, where he sadly passed away due to cardiac arrest on Tuesday, March 4, at 1 a.m., as confirmed by a social media post from his mother, Marissa Handley.

Family And Friends Watch Out For Wes Phillippe’s Parents Following His Demise From Cardiac Arrest

Somerset school superintendent Kyle Lively expressed deep sorrow over losing a beloved student.

During this challenging time, he extended thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends.

Lively emphasized that the school community is united in supporting one another and will continue to honor the memory of a student who will always be part of the Somerset family.

Prayers for Wes’s family. This is something no family, friend, teammate or coach ever expects. We are so blessed to have the memories of him being part of our Wrestling family.

The Somerset, KY, Talk Facebook group shared a message expressing gratitude for the support shown to Wes Phillippe’s family.

His parents, Ben and Marissa Phillippe, sincerely appreciate all the calls, texts, and offers of help.

Wes, known as a member of the Jumper family, had strong ties to the community. His mother was a local business owner, and his father and extended family were well-known in the area.

Many people have asked how they can assist, particularly in providing food.

A meal train has been set up to extend until June, and people can sign up to provide a meal for the family.

Morris and Hislope in Science Hill will also accept charitable donations through the Law Office of Jeremy Bartley to help cover the estimated $75,000 in funeral and medical costs.

Many donors, families, and teams have already contributed to ease the financial burden.
