NCAA player Amores turned himself in on 26 September after being involved in a shooting that reportedly started from a basketball argument.

CCTV footage showed Amores getting off a motorcycle driven by his younger brother in Barangay Maytalang Uno around 5 p.m. on 25th September before he fired his gun at a man.

Amores was playing in a basketball game in Barangay Salac when he and the victim argued over a call they disagreed on. The police said there was a bet of P4,000 on the winning team.
Similarly, the victim’s mother, Shirley Cacalda, was in tears as she mentioned that her son had just returned from working on a ship and had only been home for 5 or 6 days.
She was upset that someone would try to harm him over a bet of just P4,000 and stated that she wouldn’t allow it.

He is a 6-foot-2 guard from Jose Rizal University and shared this news during an online interview with Basketball Zone.
He has played for various teams, including the JRU Heavy Bombers in the NCAA and the Jose Rizal University teams in different leagues.
Moreover, he played for the Zamboanga Valientes, where he won the Vismin International Cup, and played for the Muntinlupa Cagers in the MPBL.

One of John Amores’ siblings, who is a barangay chairman in Pagsanjan, later contacted the Lumban police, which resulted in the two brothers surrendering at 1 a.m.
According to authorities, both brothers had been receiving threats following the incident. The official mentioned that they surrendered voluntarily due to concerns for their safety.
Amores’s family includes his happily married wife, Em Amores, and their three-year-old daughter, Mavi.
Due to the seriousness of the situation, both have made their social media accounts private with limited access.
However, one Twitter account remains active, where his wife, Em Amores, shares moments about their relationship with the PBA player and cute times with their little girl.
