Heartbreak In Fiji: Father Gyan And Mother Anita Singh Mourn Their Son Ubayd Haider’s Untimely Passing

Haider's family includes one elder brother, Sebastian "Sniper" Singh, a renowned Fijian boxer.

Ubayd Haider, aka Nathan Singh, is survived by his parents and brother, Sebastian Singh.

Fiji boxer Ubayd Haider sadly passed away after collapsing outside the ring after a TKO defeat to China’s Australia-based fighter Runqi Zhou on October 26, 2024.

Haider was admitted to Lautoka Aspen Hospital and underwent brain surgery. He remained in a coma until he passed away at 25 on Monday, November 11, 2024.

Fiji’s Sports Minister has given his assurance to local media of a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his tragic passing.

The Fijian boxing community is mourning his passing, and Haider will rest on November 12, 2024, at the Raralevu Muslim Cemetery.

Haider’s family invites the public to pay their respects during the viewing at FMF Gymnasium from 3 pm to 5 pm.

His wife, Helen Margaret Singh, shared an emotional Facebook post thanking Haider for all he has done for her and their children in the past five years. She wrote,

Always in my heart B I thank God for the incredible 25 years of your life and the last 5 you’ve spent with me. Thank you for loving me and for the incredible memories we shared together. Thank you for giving me the best gift anyone could ask for: and that is our beautiful boys I will forever cherish everything we shared and hold on dearly to our mini Nathaniel Singh’s. We have always been part of each others life: and you’ve been there throughout my journey You were my person the love of my life and my soulmate and I absolutely hate that I must continue the rest of my life without you. Rest in love Baa I love you and I miss you so so much my baby Until we meet again

Nathaniel Singh, Aka Ubayd Haider’s Parents, Have A Boxing Background

Ubayd Haider was born Nathaniel Singh, 25, in 1999 in Suva, Fiji, to his father, Gyan Singh, and his mother, Anita Singh. Gyan and Anita tied the knot on December 2, 1988.

Gyan Singh is a longtime boxing trainer who is battling various health issues. According to his LinkedIn profile, he was a former boxing trainer at Uptownboxing Gym.

Earlier, Nathan Singh, aka Ubayd Haider, and his father, Gyan Singh, appeared together at Laucala Beach State in Nasinu on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

Recently, Gyan Singh said his family is hanging on, hoping Nathan will make it out of the coma.

On March 5, 2024, Ubayd Haider took to his official Facebook handle and posted a photo of his father and mother, which was clicked after his boxing match. He captioned,

His mother, Anita Singh, paid tribute to her son Ubayd through her official Facebook handle. She wrote,

However, his parents are mourning the loss of their young son, Ubayd Haider. His close ones and relatives have poured their heartfelt condolence message for his parents to stay strong in this challenging period.

Ubayd Haider And His Family Practices Fijian Culture

Ubayd Haider and his family are Indigenous Fijians who are a mixture of Polynesian and Melanesian, resulting from the original migrations to the South Pacific.

Haider and his family belong to the Black race but are not Black Africans. They practice and follow Fijian culture and festivals.

His family includes one elder brother, Sebastian “Sniper” Singh, a renowned Fijian boxer.

He paid tribute to his younger brother Ubayd through his official Facebook handle. He wrote,

Recently, Sebastian had made a plea for everyone to pray for his brother Ubayd. He also apologized if he had done or said something wrong for the sport of boxing. He said,

“I just want to apologise to everyone if we have done or said something in conjunction to the sport boxing,” “I just ask for continued prayer and support during these difficult times for my family and my brother.” “I just want to request everyone out there if you could just continue praying for us and keeping us in your prayers during these difficult times.”
