Hall of Fame Football Coach Joe Fusco Survived By His Wife, Gail, And Two Sons, Joe And Mark

Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania: Joe Fusco was an American college football player, coach, and athletics administrator who died on February 22, 2025, at 87.

He celebrated his 87th birthday on February 3. His wife, Gail, and their two sons, Joe and Mark, survive the legendary Hall of Fame football coach.

Joseph B. Fusco played guard on the Westminster College football team from 1957 to 1959 and became an assistant coach from 1968 to 1971.

Later, he became their head coach from 1972 to 1990 and athletic director from 1985 to 1999.

During his tenure in Westminster, his team won four NAIA Division II Football National Championships and the Lambert Cup as the best small-college team in the East in 1977.

I offer my sincerest congratulations to Joe on this tremendous honor. It was a great experience to play for him. Joe taught me many things as a player — about football, about dealing with people and about life. All of those lessons continue to help me in my current position today.

Simultaneously, he also coached at Grove City Area Area High School and Wilmington Area High School before retiring in 1999.

Joe was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, Lawrence County Hall of Fame, NAIA Hall of Fame, and Western Pennsylvania Hall of Fame.

He had an illustrious career and was recognized as one of the greatest coaches in college football history. Unfortunately, his tragic demise left the whole community heartbroken.
