A 15-year-old Glenwood Boys’ High School student received many tributes after collapsing while warming up for a soccer game on 18 March.
Kaden Moodley, a Grade 10 student and twin, felt breathless shortly after the warm-up at Three Schools Astro in Glenwood, Durban.

The KwaZulu-Natal education department reported that Kaden was warming up for a soccer match when he requested to be substituted and stepped aside to get some air.
Unfortunately, he collapsed, and despite the paramedics’ best efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The pupil was participating in a warm-up soccer game when he requested to be substituted and stepped aside for air. Tragically, he collapsed and despite the tireless efforts of paramedics to resuscitate him, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

His father, Thevan Moodley, shared a photo of his son, expressing how much Kaden loved photos and how the picture was taken just minutes before his tragic passing.
He mentioned that his 15-year-old son had returned to the angels and that life would never be the same again.
Moodley and his wife were quickly informed that their son was distressed and rushed to the school.
Upon arrival, they found that first responders had been working to revive Kaden for over 30 minutes, but despite their efforts, he could not be saved.
It was reported that Kaden had been warming up by kicking a ball before he told his team he needed to step out as a substitute for the hockey game, after which he collapsed.
Moodley shared that Kaden and his twin brother were their youngest children and that they also have two older daughters, describing their family as very close-knit.
Similarly, Kammy Moodley, Kaden’s heartbroken mother, explained that his twin brother, Kellen, and older sister, Bree, had stayed home from school as they weren’t taking exams that day.
However, Kaden attended school because of the upcoming match and to train.
Kammy expressed her shock and devastation, describing Kaden as a healthy and active young boy with no known health issues.
She reflected on how Kaden often told them how much he loved them, leaving her unsure how they would cope without him.
Moodley also shared that Kaden had big ambitions. His dream was to study abroad and become a successful businessman in Dubai, and his vibrant personality attracted people.
The family had hoped to plan for his future, but he had chosen his wings instead.
The family has been overwhelmed by the support from Kaden’s friends, the school, and the wider community. Kammy describes the outpouring of support as “phenomenal.”
