Frustrated Chicago Bears Fans Demand Matt Eberflus’ Firing Following Thanksgiving Loss To Detroit Lions

Chicago Bears lost a match against the Detroit Lions with a score of 20-23.

Many fans took to social media to claim that if Matt Eberflus isn’t fired by Friday, they will form a mass protest to demand it.

Matt Eberflus, 54, born as Matthew Charles Eberflus on May 17, 1970, is an American professional football coach who is the head coach for the Chicago Bears of the NFL.

Highlights

  • Fans said they would organize a mass protest if Chicago head coach Matt Eberflus were not fired from the team.
  • Matt’s team, the Chicago Bears, lost the recent match with the Detroit Lions, scoring 20-23.
  • NFL legends like J.J. Watts and Emmanuel Acho also expressed disappointment regarding Matt Eberflus’s coaching.

He served as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts from 2018 to 2021 and the linebacker coach for the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys. He has also coached at Toledo and Missouri.

On January 27, 2022, Matt was named the 17th head coach of the Chicago Bears.

Eberflus debuted as head coach in September 2011 when the Bears beat the San Francisco 49ers 19-10 in a come-from-behind victory.

The Bears struggled the rest of the season, finishing with an NFL-worst 3-14 record.

Eberflus and the Bears extended their losing streak to a franchise record 14 games through the 2023 season.

The team broke the streak with a Week 5 win against the Washington commanders on October 5, 2023.

He also took over defensive play-calling duties after defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigned after Week 2.

The defense generated 28 turnovers, including a league-leading 22 interceptions. The Bears finished last in the division for the second consecutive year, 7-10.

Recently, on November 28, 2024, the Chicago Bears lost a match against the Detroit Lions with a score of 20-23.

Chicago Bears Fans Are Demanding To Fire Matt Eberflus Following Recent Loss With The Detroit Lions

Matt Eberflus’s questionable decision-making was again displayed as the Chicago Bears fell to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.

Chicago Bears fans went mad after their team’s 23-20 loss to the Detroit Lions. Many won’t accept Matt continuing as the Bears’ head coach and are discussing ways to end his tenure.

Most Chicago Bears fans were done with him after Matt messed up the game’s final offensive sequence, causing time to expire while he still had a timeout in his pocket.

Many fans took to their social media to claim that if Matt isn’t fired by Friday, they will organize a mass protest for his firing. One Twitter user wrote,

If he’s not fired, we should all protest

Another wrote,

I hate to do this but if Ryan Poles won’t do it, im ready for thousands of Bears fan to storm Solider field in protest for this guy to get fired or to sell the team. This is just a spit in the face to Bears fans

Melvyn Windmon

The third fan wrote,

If Eberflus is not fired by tomorrow. I seriously might drag my buddies with me and protest outside of Halas Hall. The Bears don’t want success if they don’t feed Eberflus to the sharks

NFL legend J.J. Watt wrote on Twitter,

“Man I feel for you Bears fans. That was just brutal. Literal coaching malpractice,”

While former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho wrote,

“WTF IS MATT EBERFLUS DOING??? THAT IS MALPRACTICE!!!! How do you single-handedly ruin the end of a game like that. That was the most idiotic, embarrassing, utter disgrace of clock management I’ve ever seen. Bears fans should be SICK!!!”

Ex-NFL MVP Matt Ryan, who has transitioned into broadcasting, didn’t hold back during a CBS segment criticizing Eberflus’ coaching choices. He said,

“Your responsibility is to not panic in critical situations,”

He then mentioned how the Bears head coach failed to adequately prepare his players, with a colleague suggesting such a mistake “gets coaches fired.”

For Bears supporters, their Thanksgiving dinner was soured by watching their team lose another close game.

This was the Chicago Bears’ sixth consecutive loss and 3rd in a row against a divisional opponent.

Bears have lost their last three games by a combined seven points. Matt is not helping them win in close or late situations.

They are now 4-8 this year and 14-32 in Eberflus’s tenure.

The one bright spot for Chicago on Sunday was the 2nd-half play of rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. He completed 15 of 24 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns without turning the ball over.

Williams performed almost flawlessly, throwing for 256 yards and three touchdowns, including two crucial scores in the final quarter.

Every time, Eberflus’ miscalculation or decision leads to a loss. The quarterback, Caleb, refused to take the heat for his coach’s stupidity any longer.

However, coach Matt thinks the Chicago Bears’ correct handling of the game’s end was much worse than what happened.

Rookie Caleb and the Bears deserved better from their coaching staff at the end of the game.
