Los Angeles Dodgers player Freddie Freeman’s son, Maximus Turner, was diagnosed with a scary and rare neurological condition, Guillain-Barré syndrome, earlier this year.
During the MLB’s All-Star Week in July 2024, Freeman left before a game against the Houston Astros because Max was rushed to the hospital.
The young boy developed a viral infection and he was unable to stand or walk without pain.
Highlights
- Maximus Turner was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome in August 2024.
- In the last week of July 2024, Max’s health rapidly declined and he went into full-body paralysis.
- Freddie Freeman’s wife, Chelsea Freeman, recently shared an update on Max’s condition saying the neurologist is very happy with his progress.
According to Mayo Clinic, “Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the nerves. It can cause weakness, numbness, or paralysis.”
It starts with tingling in the limbs and can lead to paralysis. The cause is unknown, and there is no cure.
However, there are many treatments available. Most people recover completely, but severe cases can be fatal.
Maximus First Developed Symptoms During MLB’s All-Star Week In July
After the young boy was rushed to the hospital, Freddie Freeman’s wife wrote on his Instagram story, “Please say a prayer for Maximus.”
She explained that doctors said Max developed transient synovitis from the viral infection he had during All-Star Week. She also asked for tips to help Max take his medicine, as he was having trouble keeping it down.
Chelsea and Freddie announced the diagnosis on Instagram.
Freddie, who was in Houston at the time, immediately took the first flight back home.
The mother of three also wrote that Maximus is a “special boy” who has been fighting very hard.
She further explained their son’s recovery will be a long journey, but they believe he will heal completely.
Maximus was taken off his breathing tube and ventilator, which Chelsea said was a big victory for them. Since then, the young boy has shown significant improvement.
After a week in the hospital, the 3-year-old returned home.
“After 8 long days in the Pediatric ICU we are officially HOME!” the baseball player and his spouse wrote in an Instagram post.
The Freeman couple wrote that Max still has a long road ahead to regain his strength and relearn how to walk. They said they were thankful to have their family back together.
“Thank you God for this miracle. Also, thank you to our incredible team of doctors and angel nurses for taking such good care of our boy. And to our village for helping so much with Charlie and Brandon,” they added.
Freddie Freeman’s Wife Gave Update On Maximus’s Condition
The MLB player’s spouse took to Instagram on 11 October and shared an update on Maximust turner’s recent health condition.
"Max's neurologist is VERY VERY VERY happy with how he is progressing. Today was the first time Dr. Crawford got to see Max walk." Wife of Freddie Freeman wrote
Chelsea added that they were still waiting for Max’s reflexes to come back, which usually takes the longest.
A few weeks ago, they were considering getting Max fitted for leg braces. However, he is doing so well that they might be able to avoid that.
"We are still waiting for his reflexes to come back, but that usually takes the longest. A few weeks ago, we were talking about getting Max fitted for leg braces. But he is doing so great that we might be able to bypass them," Chelsea wrote.
Moreover, she further explained that with lots of physical therapy, Max is getting closer to being his normal, energetic self. She thanked everyone for their prayers and well wishes for their family.
Since then, Chelsea has shared several pictures and videos in which Max can be seen doing well.
The MLB player’s wife and children attended the NLCS Games. In the pictures, Max looks happy and excited.
In addition to sharing updates about Max, the Freeman couple organized a World Series ticket giveaway to thank everyone for their support and kindness throughout the season.
They offered two tickets to the 2024 World Series and a signed Freddie Freeman baseball (or a cash value of $5,000) to the winner.
The winner would be picked at random and announced via Chelsea’s Instagram account. They also clarified that the giveaway was not affiliated with Instagram.
