Fowlerville HS WR Caleb Shermoe Dies After Being Shoved And Punched In Cane’s Line: Prayers For His Mother Karen Shermoe

Everyone joined hand in prayers for Karen Shermoe's youngest son Caleb Shermoe when he was in hospital.

20-year-old Caleb Alan Shermoe passed away from injuries he suffered after being assaulted in East Lansing.

Police responded to a report of an assault near East Grand River Avenue and M.A.C. Avenue around 1:30 a.m. on January 18.

Denise Downie Ramirez explained that her student saw Caleb was in a long line at Cane‘s, one of the few places open that late.

Some people thought he was skipping ahead in line, so they shoved and punched him. Sadly, he fell and hit his head on the concrete.

My student says he was in the very long line at Cane’s (one of maybe two restaurants still open that late) and some people thought he was line jumping. He got shoved and hit his head on the concrete.

Caleb Shermoe Suffered Severe Brain Damage And Was In Induced Coma

On the day Caleb was hospitalized, his mother, Karen Shermoe, made a heartfelt appeal, sharing that their youngest son had suffered a severe brain injury and was in an induced coma while his brain healed.

She expressed their belief in a miracle, asking others to pray for Caleb.

She thanked everyone for their support, saying people across the U.S. were praying for him.

Karen described Caleb as a fighter with strong determination, explaining that he had many plans for his life that he was eager to pursue.

Before his passing, Caleb’s mother shared an update, urging people to continue praying.

She mentioned that doctors were struggling to stabilize the swelling in his brain and manage his blood pressure, asking for prayers for his complete healing.

Unfortunately, he did not survive the injuries he sustained.

The case is still under investigation, and the East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) is working with the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office to seek charges.

ELPD Lieutenant Adrian Ojerio described the situation as deeply tragic, saying no one wins in this situation. He emphasized the department’s efforts to find and identify a suspect since receiving the initial call.

In 2022, Fowlerville senior Caleb Shermoe stood out in a 26-14 victory over Midland Bullock Creek.

After all, he played a key role, making two interceptions, catching a touchdown pass, and scoring a 2-point conversion.

His first interception came on a fourth-and-15 pass from the Fowlerville 25-yard line, and he sealed the win with another pick at the Gladiators’ 27-yard line in the game’s final seconds.
