William Arthur “Bill” Tierney Jr., 74, of Richfield, Ohio, a former high School wrestler, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025.
A lifelong Cleveland-area resident, Tierney was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected construction superintendent whose work helped shape the city’s skyline.
Tierney graduated from Maple Heights High School, where he stood out as a heavyweight wrestler.
He was also a PD Major Softball player, who was known for his competitive nature and sportsmanship.
A Serious Professional and Community Helper
He went on to a 50-year career with Laborers’ Local 310, rising to Construction Superintendent.
The former wrestler worked on projects including the Society Tower, the BP Building, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Terminal Tower, and Tower City. He also spent time working in Cleveland’s steel mills.
Beyond work, Tierney loved riding his Harley-Davidson and travelled to Sturgis with close friends on multiple occasions.
Family members and friends remember him as steady and quietly strong, the backbone of a 55-year marriage to Suzanne (Valenti) Tierney.
On behalf of the family, a statement described Bill as “the quiet, steadfast strength” who stood by his wife through long medical battles and life’s challenges.

The Lupus Foundation of America’s Greater Ohio Chapter noted Bill’s support for Suzanne over the years, writing that “through 55 years of marriage his love never wavered” and that he was “tall, not only in stature but also in character.”
Friends and neighbors posted condolences and memories online. Caitrin Cardosi wrote: “Thank you to Mr. Bill for being the supporting force behind so much good. Everyone who had the privilege to know him, and many who didn’t, are better because of his impact on this world.”
Anne Tapley Gasper added, “It’s wonderful that she had a true partner walking through life with her. Both the highs and the lows.” Local regular Mark Buczak remembered social moments: “Will keep you all in our prayers, miss having happy hour at Valente’s.”
Tierney is survived by his wife, Suzanne; daughter, Sabrina Tierney (Ken); son, William A. Tierney IV, and his wife, Leslie (Vizcarra).
The family also released the Memorial Events for William Tierney. Family and friends can plan the Visitation on November 30 (11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.) at the Ferfolia Funeral Home, Aurora Roads, Ohio.
On the other hand, the funeral services are planned for December 1, 2025, at 9:15 a.m. (Ferfolia Funeral Home, Aurora Road, Sagamore Hills, Ohio) and 10 a.m. (Gospel House, Alexander Rd, Walton Hills, Ohio).
The family also suggests donations be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, instead of bringing flowers.
