The demise of Peter Tortell was announced by the Maltese Olympic Committee and Sliema Aquatic Sports Club through their official social media account. On its Facebook post, Sliema ASC wrote,
The club is deeply saddened with the news of the passing away of former Sliema Treasurer, Peter Tortell. Sincere condolences goes to his son, former Sliema player John Tortell and all his family during this difficult time

Moreover, in addition to his position as former treasurer in the club, Peter also served as finance director in the Malta Olympic committee and on the ASA executive.
Peter began as Director of Finance on the Executive Board of the Maltese Olympic Committee in 1993 and served for 12 years.
Furthermore, the Maltese Olympic Committee issued a statement to pay tribute to Peter Tortell’s contribution to Maltese sports. It states,
It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to Peter Tortell, a distinguished sports administrator whose legacy has shaped the Maltese sporting community for decades.

Beyond his contribution as the administrator, Peter Tortell also played for Sliema Wanderes, a Maltese Football team in the 1950s.
Similarly, he was captain of his high school Lyceum team and played with Sliema Shamrocks from 1949 to 1953.

Peter Tortell was the guardian for the Tortell family. He is the foundation of culture, ethics, and the family’s athletic background.
After Peter’s demise, his sons and daughters mourn the loss. Tortell’s son John is a director at Jatco Insurance Managers PCC Ltd and Jatco Insurance Brokers PCC Ltd.
He has been involved in the insurance industry since 1987, when, at age 17, he opened a sub-agent in Malta.
Moreover, Peter’s son John was a former Sliema player during his collegiate days.
Furthermore, Peter Tortell was a caring father-in-law to John’s wife, Aida Tortell, and a model grandfather to Jessica and Christina.
On the other hand, Peter Tortell’s daughter Angela Micallef is also mourning the loss of her beloved father.
On her Facebook post, she remembered her father as one of the kindest, generous, and determined people in her life, writing,
Our beloved father Peter passed away peacefully this morning after a long and fruitful life surrounded by his family. You were an example of kindness, generosity and determination and we were blessed to have you in our lives. We will remember your warm smile until we meet again. Love you dad.

Along with Angela, her husband, Peter’s son-in-law Kenneth, and their children Nicholas, Gareth, and Tricia, they deeply grieve Peter Tortell’s demise.
Furthermore, Peter Tortell was also a guardian for his three granddaughters from his another son Simon Tortell: Elena, Alexandra, and Ana Sofia.
Peter’s son Simon passed away on June 14, 2012, following a long illness, at age 52.
As of March 9, 2025, the family has not announced the date of Peter Tortell’s funeral and memorial ceremony.
