Former Lamar County Athlete Stormy Nicole Smith Jameson Passes Away at 39 after battling Breast and Bone Cancer

A Tragic Loss!

Stormy Nicole Smith Jameson, a former Lamar County standout athlete and longtime Lovell community member, died Nov. 23, 2025, in Lovell, Wyoming.

She had a brief but aggressive battle with metastatic breast and bone cancer. She was 39.

Born Sept. 16, 1986, in Paris, Texas, Stormy grew up in North Lamar schools where she excelled academically and athletically.

She earned scholarships for volleyball and basketball and graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University in 2009 with a degree in business and marketing.

While at OPSU, she met Michael Jameson; the couple married June 12, 2009, and made their home in Lovell, where they raised four children: Kobi Rayne (13), Jace Michael (12), Kali Mae (9), and Jett Jordyn (3).

Stormy was a familiar face at the Lovell Chronicle, serving as advertising manager, reporter, photographer, and graphics support. Colleagues called her the paper’s “Swiss Army knife.”

She also built a strong coaching resume: she led Lovell Bulldog volleyball to the Class 3A state championship and earned Coach of the Year honors in Class 2A West (2012) and Class 3A West (2015).

The Lovell Lady Bulldogs also showed a grand gesture towards Jameson when she was battling Cancer.

A favorite memory among players and friends was the team’s state-title run — “They did it for Stormy!” reads a post shared before she passed.

Community Sends Prayers

Her cancer diagnosis came suddenly. After severe back pain and tests, doctors found Stage IV metastatic breast cancer that had spread to her bones.

Stormy endured emergency hospital care, rod surgery in one femur for stabilization, and intense pain management as plans for additional surgery and chemotherapy were delayed while she stabilized.

Family members and close friends cared for her at home in recent weeks.

The Lovell Chronicle remembered her this week: “We lost a very special colleague and friend… Stormy was our Swiss Army knife colleague… We miss her so very much.”

Charlie Hamilton recalled late nights and “your big ole smile,” asking her to “watch over us down here.”

Sharon Sain wrote, “Love you guys prayers. Such a sweet pretty girl. Prayers for the family especially her babies. Losing Landon has been so hard on cash. But God will get us all through these hard times.”

Esperanza Parciael added, “You were always smiling and great at making me smile, even when I didn’t want to! Sending prayers to her family! She will be truly missed.”

Jameson was not just a fantastic coach and athlete, but also a great sports fan. According to her husband, the family used to have more “anniversary dinners at a baseball field than a fancy restaurant.”

The couple, along with their kids, used to attend MLB games and also made it to the World Series finals a couple of times as fans.

To honor the late Athlete and, most importantly, a family mom, Services will be on Friday, Nov. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Lovell High School Johnny Winterholler Gym, with interment to follow at Lovell Cemetery.

A viewing is set at Haskell Funeral Home from 11:00–12:30 p.m.; the funeral will be livestreamed on Haskell Funeral Home’s Facebook page (3:00 p.m. for friends in Texas).

An account has been established at the Bank of Lovell for Stormy’s children. As confirmed by Melissa Caveder, Jameson told her she would appreciate it if individuals made donations to the North Big Horn Senior Center instead of bringing flowers.
