Marshawn Lynch’s Mother, Delisa Lynch, Is Former Record Holder Athlete At Oakland Technical High School

Matshawn Terrel Lynch was born to his father, Maurice Sapp, and his mother, Delisa Lynch.

The former NFL player was mainly raised by his mother, Delisa, while his father was imprisoned throughout his childhood, and later, his parents separated.

Marshawn Lynch’s mother, Delisa, is a one-woman cheerleading squad for her son. She is as popular as “Momma Lynch” among Lynch’s fans.

Delisa has been unwavering in her support throughout her son’s professional journey. She has also balanced her profession while raising Marshawn Lynch and his three siblings.

Momma Lynch worked as a maintenance supervisor for AT&T, while Marshawn played for Seattle Seahawks in 2014.

Moreover, Delisa has an athletic background. She has a 200-meter track record and raced at Oakland Technical High School.

Although she never took her athletic skills any further, she has inspired Marshawn with her determination and athleticism.

Furthermore, Momma Lynch always got her son, Marshawn Lynch, back. In 2017 when President Donald Trump projected his criticism on NFL players protesting racial injustice during the national anthem.

Apparently, during the U.S. anthem during a game in November 2017, Lynch took a seat, but during Mexico, she stood. Following the incident, Trump tweeted that he would call for Lynch’s yearlong suspension.

However, Delisa Lynch hit back at Trump, stating,

What NFL team do Trump own? Oh yeah They would not let him have one!!! LMAO

Marshawn Lynch’s Father, Maurice Sapp, Is Serving 24 years In Mississippi Prison

Former NFL player Marshawn grew up in the scarcity with his mother and siblings, while his father regularly went to prison.

As of January 2025, he is serving 24 years of imprisonment for drug possession and burglary in the Tallahatchie County correctional facility in Mississippi.

According to Daily Mail, Sapp had been in and out of jail for robberies, two petty thefts, and one grand theft offense by the mid-1990s.

He was in a serious drug addiction, and it ruined his family life. He eventually got kicked out of his house by his wife, Delisa.

Free from the responsibilities of the family, Sapp’s criminality increased. He was convicted to one year in jail and five years probation for a second-degree burglary in 2002.

Furthermore, Maurice’s offenses included possession of narcotic paraphernalia, unlawful transportation, distribution and importation of marijuana, and more probation violations.

However, in 2010, Sapp fell victim to California’s tough ‘three strikes and you’re out’ system; in 2012, he was jailed.

For Marshawn Lynch, his father, Maurice, was never in the picture. In 2015, a movie titled “Family First, the Marshawn Lynch Story” was released to depict his life.

In the movie, a list of roles to featured in the film has a noticable omission, but there is no father.

Moreover, Maurice is absent from the movie in post-production, just as he was absent from much of Lynch’s life.
