Ex-Elder HS Football Player Zac Grawe Dies Unexpectedly After Losing His Mother To Alzheimer’s Disease

The Grawe family didn't pass the death cause of their youngest son, Zac Grawe.

Zac Grawe, a former football player at Elder High School, suddenly passed away at 35. His death has left those who knew him deeply saddened, as he was taken too soon.

Zac Grawe was a senior football player at Elder High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he played as an offensive lineman for the 2007 and 2006 seasons.

Highlights

  • Zac Grawe’s mother, Dewey Grawe, passed away on October 23, 2023, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Connor fondly remembered asking Zac for his vest, which was torn and dirty, yet Zac considered it as good as new.
  • During thunderstorms, the Grawe family would gather in the basement with a weather radio to stay safe.

He was added to the football roster in 2006 and continued participating in the 2007 season.

After playing football in high school, Zac Grawe worked at Amazon, and many of his co-workers have shared that everyone at the workplace loved him.

Zac Grawe Was Born To Parents Ric And Dewey In Cincinnati

Zac was the youngest of parents, Ric and Dewey‘s three children, and was always known as late mother, Dewey’s favorite.

Dewey Grawe passed away on October 23, 2023, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Zac grew up with two siblings, Bryan and Mary, who shared many memorable moments.

For instance, their mother didn’t allow the internet in their home until 2005 because she was worried her kids could be “stolen in a chat room.”

Dewey wouldn’t let them keep bouncy balls from quarter machines because she feared they might choke on them.

During thunderstorms, the family would gather in the basement with a weather radio to stay safe.

On Halloween, she would check every piece of candy for razor blades, showing how much she cared about their safety.

A loyal Cincinnati sports fan, Zac and his brother, Bryan, also loved competing over baseball trivia, especially in games like Immaculate Grid, where Zac often won.

During Reds and Bengals games, their group texts with their father, Ric, were always fun and witty.

Friends Mourns The Loss Of Zac Grawe

Connor Myers shared a heartfelt tribute to his friend Zac Grawe, describing him as a one-of-a-kind person.

Regardless of the situation or challenges, Zac always had a smile and laugh that could disappear any problem.

Connor fondly remembered asking Zac for his vest, which was torn and dirty, yet Zac considered it as good as new.

He also recalled how Zac would proudly explain why he wore shorts, saying, “With calves like these, you can’t cover them up.”

Zac had powerful calves, and that confidence was part of his charm. Connor expressed how much Zac would be missed, thanking him for the friendship and advice he had always given.

I just wanted to take time and say rest in peace to a great man, Zac Grawe was a one of a kind person, no matter what situation or circumstances he had a smile and a laugh that would make any problem go away. I would always ask him for his vest if you seen it, it was dirty, rip up and all sorts but it was as good as new to him. If you would ask him why he’s in shorts he would answer “with calves like these you can’t cover them up” this man had tree trunks of calves! But with all said, alot of people are going to miss you Grawe, I appreciate the friendship and advice you always gave me. RIP

Similarly, another friend, Grant Kotzbauer, shared he had joked about Zac being in his wedding one day, knowing Zac would never wear a suit without a fight.

Grant remembered how Zac loved Cincinnati sports, supporting them through thick and thin, no matter how bad things got.

He expressed that words couldn’t fully capture the pain of losing Zac but that Zac would always have a place in his heart and soul.

The world and my heart both feel so empty today. Last night I lost one of the greatest friends I’ll ever have. Zac Grawe was one of the brightest shining lights left in this cruel world. Words can’t even do it justice how this feels. None of it feels real at all. Grawe had one of the most contagious laughs you’d ever hear. He would do anything in the world for anyone, no matter what. Grawe also loved Cincinnati sports so much, no matter how bad they would screw up or how terrible they would be, he would never give up on them. No matter how much he would rather stay at home and do his own thing, he still showed up to every birthday I’d invite him to, every holiday, anything that best friends should be together for. That was the kind of man Grawe was. It was just 2 days ago where I talked about him being in my wedding someday, how I would have to pay him to wear anything more than a polo and khakis because suits were definitely not his thing, haha. Although I’m so upset that he is gone, I had the privilege to spend most of his last week on earth with him, and that feels like a true blessing in disguise. I could go on and on, but as I said words will never do this loss justice. You are still my brother Grawe. You’ll be with me forever and you’ll always have a spot in my heart and soul. I’ll see you soon brother, whenever that may be. I can’t wait to meet again. Rest in Peace brother. I love you.
