Four University of Essex students tragically lost their lives in a crash in Colchester.
The accident, believed to have been caused by high speed, occurred on 1st February.

The victims were Makyle Bayley, 22, Eva Darold-Tchikaya, 21, Anthony Hibbert, 24, and Daljang Wol, 22. All of them were pronounced dead at the scene.

The person who set up the page shared that Essex Rebels basketball star Makyle was a caring and genuine person.
Makyle was also very passionate about basketball, and everyone who knew him could see how dedicated he was to becoming the best at the sport.
Sadly, he passed away, and those who knew and loved him are heartbroken, never imagining such a loss.

Makyle Bayley’s loss is deeply mourned by his grandmother, Joy Smart, who frequently expressed her pride in being a grandma.
The crash occurred at 4:40 a.m. on 1st February, when the driver veered onto the wrong side of the road and ended up driving onto the pavement, striking a set of brick steps outside a house.
So, the car ended up lodged in the corner of a building that houses a secondhand shop and a Thai massage parlor on Magdalen Street.

Makyle Bayley was a dedicated and versatile individual with many professional and extracurricular experiences.
He served as a part-time Sales Specialist at Halfords from March 2022 to June 2023, specializing in the bikehut department.
In this role, he consistently engaged with customers, offering expert advice on cycling products and ensuring an exceptional customer experience.
In addition to his retail experience, Makyle was honored to be the inaugural Charity Ambassador for Youth Experience in Sport (YES) from April 2022 to February 2023.
During this time, he hosted several speaking engagements, conducted interviews, and starred in a short film focused on youth participation in sports, particularly within the Hackney community.
His involvement with YES allowed him to give back to his borough, positively impacting the lives of local youth and supporting the organization’s mission to improve opportunities for the next generation.
Makyle also pursued a Sports and Exercise Science degree at the University of Essex.
His time abroad at the University of Mississippi further contributed to the NCAA Division 1 Basketball team, participated in social work, and served as a member of the Black Student Union.
Additionally, he supported the University’s Study Abroad program, helping American students explore international opportunities.

- Stuart Hooper, Temporary Assistant Chief Constable of Essex Police, expressed his condolences to the families and friends of Makyle, Eva, Anthony, and Daljang.
- Hooper also mentioned that the Serious Collision Investigation Unit is working to determine what led to the crash. However, they currently believe no other vehicles were involved.
- He concluded by thanking the emergency services for their efforts in handling the situation with dignity and expressing gratitude to the community for their support and cooperation.
