Tarik Skubal’s wife, Jessica Skubal, surprised him with a brand-new car on his 28th birthday.
Detroit Tigers left-handler Tarik Skubal, 28, was unanimously selected as the American League Cy Young Award winner.
Highlights

- His wife Jessica gifted him a brand new black colored car on his birthday.

For the 3rd consecutive year, the AL Cy Young Award winner has been a unanimous choice. Tarik’s election follows those of Gerrit Cole in 2023 and Justin Verlander in 2022.
The only other time that 3 consecutive Cy Young Awards were unanimous selections in either league was in the AL, with Roger Clemens in 1998 and Pedro Martinez in 1999 and 2000.
Skubal, who led AL Pitchers in victories (18-4 record), earned run average (2.39), and strikeouts (228), is the 7th “triple crown” winner in the league to take the Cy Young Award.
He joined McLain, a two-time winner (1968-69), plus Verlander (2011), Max Scherzer (2013), and Guillermo “Willie” Hernandez (1984).
Skubal and the Kansas City Royals’ Seth Lugo were the only pitchers on every ballot. Ballots were submitted to postseason play.
They tabulated using a system that awards seven points for first place, four points for second place, three points for third place, two votes for fourth place, and one point for fifth place.
