Tim Patrick's father spent 15 years in jail and was absent during his upbringing.

Tim Patrick, an American professional football wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, had a rough upbringing during his childhood.

His parents were sent to prison, and he grew up with his paternal grandmother, Ruth Patrick, who shaped his athletic career.

Highlights

  • Tim Patrick’s father spent 15 years in prison, whereas his mother spent around 4 to 5 years.

Timothy Mychael Patrick began his athletic career playing for the Centurions at the University City High School in San Diego.

Later, he played for Grossmont College but transferred to the University of Utah, appearing in 22 games. He finished his three seasons with 61 catches for 888 yards with five touchdowns.

Sadly, he was undrafted in the 2017 NFL draft, and the Baltimore Ravens signed him as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2017. However, he was waved after a couple of months.

Afterward, he played for the San Francisco 49ers till September 1, 2017, and signed with the Denver Broncos’ practice squad on October 21, 2017.

Tim suffered several injuries during the 2022-23 season, and the Broncos released him after failing to trade him in 2024.

He signed with the Detroit Lions practice squad on August 27, 2024, and they promoted him to the active roster on September 24.

The Untold Story of Tim Patrick’s Parents

Tim Patrick, the son of Tim Patrick and Marsi Lovett, was born in San Diego, California, on November 23, 1993.

His father was absent during his upbringing, and his mother raised him alongside his two siblings, a brother and a sister.

Tim Patrick’s lifestory is worthy of a movie. His father was arrested for 15 years, and his mother also spent some time in prison.

He faced numerous challenges as an athlete, but his parents’ absence complicated his surroundings. His grandmother was his guardian while he bounced from one step-parent living arrangement to another.

My dad did 15 years in federal prison, and my mom, I think she did three or four. I was raised by everybody — my mom and dad, my stepmom, my grandma and grandpa — everybody played a part.

Tim Patrick

Nothing has been easy in his life, and he permanently moved on, accepting it was just another challenge. Despite the challenges in his early life, he excelled in his athletic career.

He left comparing his life with others as everybody’s situation is different. He is about reaching his potential rather than what others expect from you.

His life battles have strengthened him, and when others think he is tired, he is just getting started. His biggest motivation is to keep his family happy.

Tim believes God is more significant than his highs and lows and doesn’t panic, thinking the almighty had planned it that way.

He often mentioned how his unique and different upbringing shaped his view of the world and football’s place in it.

Tim Patrick’s Father Lost His Life In 2018

Denver Broncos players wore custom-designed cleats to highlight the various causes and nonprofit organizations they support in the annual “My Cause My Cleats” campaign.

Tim Patrick represented the Sarcoma Foundation of America to raise awareness about the disease that took the life of his father in 2018.

His father had a rare cancer that developed in the bones and soft tissue, including fat, fibrous tissues, muscles, deep skin tissues, nerves, and blood vessels.

He was a nice guy who brought smiles to everybody’s faces and positivity. He taught him to make sure his family was good no matter what.

Likewise, his father prepared him for anything that would happen in the future so that he would already know his next move.

My dad was a guy that brought a smile to everybody’s face and brought that positivity.
I felt like he prepared me for it, so when it happened, I already knew what he wanted for me and that’s to always keep family first and make sure our family is good no matter what.
