In an interview with the Irish Independent, Conor McGregor’s father, Tony McGregor, said that becoming a dad and grandfather, along with his long marriage to Margaret, brought him the most happiness.
While recounting some unforgettable moments of his life, the proud father of the UFC fighter recalled special moments like the birth of his son, Conor, in 1988 at Holles Street.
“His fists were clenched when he was born, ready to fight,” Tony said.
“The midwife said, ‘This boy is going to be a boxer.’ It was an easy birth; Margaret was in labor for just an hour. Conor was eager to make his entrance.”

Tony McGregor And Margaret McGregor First Met While Walking To School
The former Featherweight and Lightweight champion Conor McGregor’s parents, Tony and Margaret first met when they were walking to school as teenagers.
The McGregor couple got together in the mid-1970s when they were only 16 years old.
“It was her (Margaret’s) looks that attracted me as she wasn’t a bad-looking bird,” Tony recalled with a smile in an interview.
"Margaret was beautiful and she still is. We got married at 21, in 1980. She's a very generous woman and a good listener and she has great qualities," the MMA fighter's dad added.
As newlyweds, Margaret and Tony started off in a two-bedroom apartment in Dublin 2.

The UFC fighter’s parents were able to move to the apartment only after saving diligently for three years to afford a mortgage.
Moreover, Tony and Margaret bought their first house in Crumlin, Dublin 12, opposite Sundrive Park.
By then, their first child, Erin, had been born in 1982, followed by Aoife in 1986 and Conor in 1988.
"That was what you did as a working-class person. You didn't go to university or college—you got married, had kids, and became a man early on in life. I drove a taxi for 26 years, which I loved, even though I worked nights around the clock like Dracula," Tony explained
Tony said he got to spend a lot of time with his kids.
“I would bring Conor to his football matches on Sunday mornings, even though I had worked until daylight on Saturday night,” the proud father went on.
When Conor was five, the family had moved to a bigger house in Crumlin, a three-bedroom semi with two bathrooms. Eventually, the UFC fighter began his martial arts training.
Nevertheless, Tony and Margaret raised their three kids, who are living their dreams.
In May 2024, Conor McGregor’s father was hospitalized after experiencing chest pains.
Fortunately, Tony was expected to recover and be discharged soon. He was reportedly admitted to a top medical facility in Ireland, with several family members, including Conor, by his side.
