UFC 249 Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson was supposed to be a great fight but now the fight may not happen and here is why!

UFC 249 Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson Among Latest Sports Events Affected By Covid-19

UFC was among a few professional sports events that (combat) sports lovers could still enjoy while other sports organization caved to Covid-19. However, UFC 249 main event fight, scheduled for April 18th, is in danger of lengthy postponement.

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson May Be Delayed For Months

UFC 249 was supposed to take place in Brooklyn, New York which is clearly not gonna happen, due to NYC being the main Covid-19 epicenter in the Western Hemisphere. Dana White claims that he has an alternative place 99.9% agreed but is unwilling to reveal the location.

And this is what causes the problem. White may consider changing the location to a more exotic destination, a destination with much fewer Covid-19 cases than the USA, but that would cause many issues. Lack of interest, due to timezone difference leading to lower pay-per-view revenue from an incredibly interesting fight.

"Trust me, Khabib has been telling me every day, 'Send location,'" said White, referencing a line used by Nurmagomedov. "I have it. It's 99.9%. On April 18, we are having this fight."

However, if the UFC 249 gets a no go that may cause even more problems and the UFC 249 main event will have to be postponed for several months.

Khabib is an amazing fighter dedicated to his profession but he is also practicing Muslim, who follows religions traditions. Khabib Nurmagomedov does not fight during Ramadan, which this year falls from April 23 to May 23.

In addition, Khabib needs time to recover his strength after Ramadan and needs at least 45 days to get back in shape probably even more because this is such a high profile fight and he will not want to take any chances.

"I know my body, how it feels," Nurmagomedov said in a recent interview. "That's why I don't fight during Ramadan and right after Ramadan.

"We need a minimum of 45 days to recover. We compete at such a high level. That's why we have to watch everything."

The recent UFC fight night in Brazil was a big disappointment for me personally. I enjoy watching fights in bars and enjoy talking with fellow sports enthusiasts about the fight while they are happening, also lack of fans in Brazil made whole UFC experience rather boring...

For the sake of a good and safe fight, I say, let's postpone the fight and enjoy it once the world gets back to normal.

What do you think?

Should UFC 249 Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson happen, or should it rather be postponed for several months?
