Coach Steve Dodd Dies at 70, Leaving Behind Wife Deborah “Kay” Hill, with Whom He Spent 48 Years of His Life

Steve spent 50 years in coaching!

Former Lindsey Wilson College basketball coach Steve Dodd passed away, leaving behind his family, including his wife Deborah “Kay” Hill and their two children.

Steve was the oldest of the three children born to Harold and Virginia Dodd. He graduated from Paul G. Blazer High School in Ashland, Kentucky, in 1973.

After high school, he played basketball for David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tennessee.

Lipscomb was also where Steve first met his wife, Deborah “Kay” Hill, around 1976.

Their college love grew into a lifelong partnership, and they married on June 4, 1977, in Nashville.

Although not many personal or professional details about Kay have been publicly disclosed, it is known that she stood beside Steve through every move, coaching job, and milestone in his life.

Following their successful marriage, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Michael, in 1984, and three years later, they had a daughter, Hillary.

Now that Steve has passed, he leaves behind not only his family but also countless people who remember him and the impact he had on their lives during his coaching years.

Dodd Family and Community Mourn the Loss of Their Beloved Coach Steve!

Steve Dodd, known as Stephen “Steve” Licle Dodd, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, at the age of 70.

While not officially confirmed, some reports suggest that Steve may have died after sustaining severe injuries in an automobile accident about a month ago.

Steve’s passing has deeply affected the Dodd family, and the wider community is also mourning the loss.

Steve was not just a coach; he was a mentor to many. He dedicated 50 years of his life to coaching at various colleges and high schools.

After his time at Lindsey Wilson College, he continued his career at the high school level, serving as the boys’ basketball coach at Russell High School in Russell, Kentucky, from 2002 to 2008.

Following his years of coaching, he was inducted into the NAIA Coaching Hall of Fame in 2001 during his tenure at Lindsey Wilson College.

Now that he has passed, many remember his guidance, mentorship, and the lasting impact he had on their lives.

Following Steve’s death, the Dodd family has scheduled the funeral service for Steve at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on Monday, November 17, 2025.

Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at noon, officiated by Gary Dodd and Todd Parsley.
