Coach Matthew Brown Passed Away at 51, Leaving Behind His Wife Ellen and Two Children

Carroll Spirit Basketball fourth-grade boys coach Matthew Brown has passed away at the age of 51, leaving behind his wife, Ellen, and two children.

While the family has not confirmed the cause of death, it has been reported that Matthew Brown, also known as Matt, was involved in an accident.

The Wright State University Athletics Facebook group confirmed his death.

Matt completed his B.A. in Organizational Communications from Wright State University in 1999, where he proudly served as a men’s basketball manager.

His father, Jim Brown, worked with the Wright State men’s basketball program for 27 years, serving as an assistant coach, associate head coach, and head coach.

Alongside his father, Matt was also present on the Raider bench, managing games as part of the men’s basketball staff.

Additionally, Matt’s brother, Anthony Brown, also played basketball for the Raiders at Wright State.

Coach Matthew Brown Dies, Leaving Behind His Wife of 25 Years!

Matthew Brown married his wife, Ellen Brown, 25 years ago. The couple enjoyed over two decades of a happy life together.

While not many details about Ellen Brown have been disclosed in the media, it is known that she shared a happy life with Matt and supported him throughout his life.

According to Matt’s Facebook profile, they seemed to have a strong bond, with Matt often sharing pictures with his wife, Ellen.

The couple has two sons: the oldest, Logan Brown, who is married and has a son, Wyatt Brown, making Matt a grandfather, and the youngest, Alex Brown.

Likewise, Matt is survived by his father, Jim Brown; his mother, Becky Brown; his brother, Anthony Brown; and Anthony’s wife, Amy Brown.

While his death has brought grief to the family, the community also seems to be mourning the loss of a beloved coach.

While many have shared their grief, sorrow, and sympathy toward the Brown family via media and different means, one person in the Facebook comments wrote:

I’m heartbroken. Matt is part of some of the best memories I have at Wright State. Condolences to Coach Brown and Mrs. Brown and his family. We’ll miss you ‘ol buddy.

Another one in the same post writes;

This is just breaking our hearts and is constantly in our thoughts. What a decent guy! Our prayers and thoughts are with Ellen, Alex, Logan, and the rest of their family.

As per Matt’s family, the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 22, at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Vandalia.

Additionally, the family will receive friends at the church on Friday, November 21, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
