Robert Patterson Was Passionate About Sports From A Young Age

Ted grew up in a loving family with his parents, Theodore James and Harriet (Tibbs) Patterson, in South Bend, Indiana.

He was raised with his four siblings- Mary Jo Myer, Jim Patterson, Margaret Cinninger, and Martha (Bill) Kennedy.

During his high school years, Ted developed a keen interest in sports, especially football, and excelled in it.

He graduated from Niles High School in 1963, earning recognition as an all-state football player during his time there.

Ted’s athletic prowess earned him a scholarship to Central Michigan University, where he continued to play college football.

However, there is no information available about whether he pursued a professional football career after college.

Robert later started to work as a teacher and coach at Chippewa Hills High School, where he coached football and track.

He also founded and developed the school’s wrestling program and encouraged students to reach their full potential.

Additionally, his involvement extended beyond coaching as he served as the Senior Class sponsor and participated in various student activities, enriching the lives of all those he interacted with.

Known for his warmth, kindness, and sense of humor, Ted forged many lifelong friendships within his community.

Alongside His Coaching Career, Robert Was Deeply Committed To His Family Life

Robert met his lifelong partner, Cheryl Oosterbaan, when they were studying at Central Michigan University.

After dating in university, the couple got married on August 20, 1966, and together, they built a loving family of four.

The couple shared two children- Theodore Robert “Teddy” (Donna) Patterson and Terry Lee (Al) Wenzel.

Further, they are even grandparents to their three grandchildren- T.J. (Kylie), Jordan (Skylar), and Kylee.

Cheryl enjoys being a grandparent which is evident from her social media as she often shares pictures of her family and grandkids.

Patterson cherished every family moment to the fullest, whether it was spending time with his children, walking his daughter down the aisle, or creating memories with his grandchildren.

Unfortunately, with his passing, the Patterson family has been heartbroken and mourning his loss.

He was preceded by his parents, his son Timothy Donald Patterson, his brother Thomas Patterson, his brother-in-law Bob Myer, and his sister-in-law Sarah Patterson.
