Declan Doyle, an American professional football coach, attended the University of Iowa, where his father was the strength coach.

According to multiple reports, the Chicago Bears hired Declan Doyle as their new offensive coordinator on January 26, 2025.

Highlights

  • Declan Doyle has been hired as the new offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears.
  • Doyle was born to his father, Chris Doyle, and his mother, Tia Doyle.
  • Declan has two siblings: Donovan and Dillon Doyle.

The Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs was the first to report that the former Denver Broncos tight ends coach would join Ben Johnson’s coaching staff.

Declan has served the last two years as Denver’s tight ends coach on Sean Payton’s Broncos staff.

Before that, he worked as an offensive assistant for the New Orleans Saints from 2018 to 2022, and before that, he was an offensive student assistant for the University of Iowa from 2016 to 2018.

Declan’s new offensive staff includes offensive passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El and quarterback coach J.T. Barrett.

While in New Orleans, he worked with the new Bears defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen, who had been the Saints’ head coach for the last three seasons.

Dennis Allen has also been hired as the new defensive coordinator by the Chicago Bears.

Offensive Coordinator Declan Doyle’s Parents Met At Boston University

A professional football coach and offensive coordinator, Declan Doyle, 29, was born in 1996 in Iowa, United States, to his father, Chris Doyle, and his mother, Tia Doyle.

Chris met his wife, Tia Doyle, at Boston University, where she played basketball from 1986 to 1990. Little is known about Tia, as she has avoided social media.

However, Chris and Tia cared most about fostering strong brains in their kids.

During the interview with Hawk Central, Chris and Tia said,

“Our focus was never on — this sounds odd — but we weren’t focused on sports,”  “We were focused on trying to raise good kids. The academic part of it always had role No. 1. “We were more concerned with the life lessons that you can learn from sports. We didn’t give a hoot what sport. And it always took a back seat to them growing academically.”

Declan’s father, Chris, 56, born on June 30, 1968, is from Quincy, Massachusetts, and attended Boston College High School.

He earned his B.S. in Human Movement from Boston University in 1990 and his M.Ed. in Education in 1991.

In addition, Chris played football for Boston University and was a strength athlete, competing in the National Championship in three different sports: Powerlifting, Highland Games, and Strongman.

He was inducted into the Boston College High School Hall of Fame in November 2004.

In 2020, multiple former Iowa players spoke about racial disparities in the Iowa program and incidents where Doyle allegedly made racist comments and belittled players, for which he was subsequently placed on administrative leave.

During the 2020 racial unrest in the United States after the murder of George Floyd by Police, Black former Iowa players called for changes within the program. Former Iowa offensive lineman James Daniels tweeted,

“If the team collectively decides to kneel, this will bring about a cultural change for both Iowa football and the state of Iowa which I believe is long overdue!!!” Two days later, Daniels followed up with a second tweet asserting “there are too many racial disparities in the Iowa football program. Black players have been treated unfairly for far too long.” Several other Iowa players added to Daniels’ claims, citing Doyle and offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz as two of the leading causes of racial disparities in Iowa football. Former Iowa defensive lineman Jaleel Johnson wrote on Twitter “Coach Doyle is the problem in that building. And so is Brian Ferentz…. things won’t progress until those two fix themselves. They know they’re a problem.”
