Michael ‘Scotty’ McGuire attended Chariho Regional High School, played for the school, and earned All-State honors.
Moreover, he eventually returned to coach the next generation. Initially, Scotty started as a young coach before taking on the assistant coach role at Chariho.
Beyond soccer, McGuire was a familiar face at Chariho sporting events. He was vice president of the Chariho Sports Boosters and a dedicated supporter of the school’s unified basketball team.

Along with being an exponential coach for high school athletes, Michael McGuire was a wonderful husband to his wife, Susan McGuire, and father to his son, Mike McGuire.
Scotty’s wife, Susan, is a former account replication agent at Louis Panciera Insurance. She attended Westerly Junior-Senior High School.
Similarly, Michael McGuire’s son, Mike McGuire, works as a water filtration technician at Aqua Science and studied at Rhode Island College (RIC).
Moreover, in high school, Mike was on the soccer team coached by his father, Scotty McGuire, a youth coach at the time.
After the passing of the father figure, the McGuire family is mourning the loss of their beloved father and husband.
On February 25, 2025, Susan shared an emotional message on her Facebook post, writing,
To my facebook family….News travels fast and by now most of you know that I have lost the love of my life. He fought so hard for more than 3 weeks on life support but in the end there were too many issues for him to overcome.

Scotty McGuire Passed Away Following Complications From Heart Surgery
According to NBC 10 News, McGuire’s health declined in late October 2024 after he was hospitalized with double pneumonia.
Although he recovered and returned home, doctors later discovered he further needed open-heart surgery.
Furthermore, during the procedure, a brain aneurysm led to complications that kept him on life support for several weeks.
On November 17, 2024, Scotty McGuire’s wife, Susan McGuire, updated about his health condition through her Facebook post writing,
Most of you know that Scotty had a life threatening medical emergency 3 weeks ago. He is home, feeling better, but is awaiting numerous surgeries to fix blockages and aneurysms. He came close to losing his life that morning. It’s impossible to thank each and everyone of you personally for your prayers, thoughts, gifts, phone calls, texts, but please know how much we appreciate each and everyone of you

During such a crucial time, Scotty’s wife Susan and his family remained by his side, hoping for a recovery.
However, little by little, doctors confirmed there was little brain activity, and the family made the difficult decision to say goodbye.
Since his passing, former players, students, and community members have reached out to share memories of McGuire and the impact he had on their lives.
