Just after his freshman year at Mullins High School, his mother Anita tragically passed away following a long battle with breast cancer.

Likewise, Anita loved her children, and even before her demise, she told her mother, Xavier’s maternal grandmother Linda Neal, that she just didn’t want to leave her children.

Anita Legette was very supportive of Xavier and inspired him to pursue his career in sports. She was a softball player and track star at Mullins.

Xavier went through a difficult time after his mother’s demise. He used to shut down people, and when asked how he was doing, he did say he was fine but wouldn’t talk much.

Similarly, Xavier’s maternal grandmother Linda stated that a part of Xavier’s grieving for Anita was to do things he thought would make his late mother proud, including following his dreams for sports.

His father passed away of a heart attack months after Xavier signed with South Carolina and graduated from his high school.
