Brad And Jeff Marchand Have The Fiery Family Ties Behind Their Athletic Journey

Jeff Marchand played in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League before joining Saint Mary’s University.

Brad Marchand, a Canadian professional ice hockey left winger for the Florida Panthers, is the eldest of four children born to Kevin and Lynn Marchand.

He grew up with his brother, Jeff Marchand, and two sisters, Melissa and Rebecca Marchand, in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Highlights

  • Kevin Marchand instilled in him a competitive playing style, and Lynn balanced his intensity with humor and emotional support.
  • Brad shares a tight-knit relationship with his younger brother, Jeff, and credits him with teaching him signature moves, such as the five-hole shot.
  • Rebecca became a successful realtor in Halifax, and Melissa ventured into custom embroidery.

Brad began playing hockey at the age of 2 and developed an aggressive playing style from a young age. Since childhood, he struggled with his temper and took anger management classes as an adolescent.

The Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) selected him in the 2004 QMJHL entry draft, and he was named the Rookie of the Year.

The Boston Bruins selected Brad in the third round of the 2006 NHL entry draft, and he entered the Bruins’ 2008 training camp looking to rebuild his reputation as a strong player.

On October 21, 2009, he made his NHL debut against the Nashville Predators. He scored his first NHL goal against the Buffalo Sabres on November 3, 2010.

Brad helped the Bruins win the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals and also appeared in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2013 and 2019.

On March 7, 2025, he was traded to the Florida Panthers, where he won his second Stanley Cup.

It feels completely different. I have so much more respect and appreciation for how difficult it was to get here and how hard it is and the amount of things that need to go right to win.
This is an incredible feeling, especially doing it here at home with so many people who have been a huge part of it.

Brad Marchand Credits His Athletic Journey To His Parents

Bradley Kevin Marchand, the son of Kevin and Lynn Marchand, was born on May 11, 1988, in Nova Scotia, Canada.

He is the eldest of four children born to two local hockey coaches. They were all born in a span of four years.

Kevin instilled in him the aggressive, competitive edge that defines his NHL career.

Meanwhile, Lynn’s sharp sense of humor helped shape the playful, charismatic personality that makes him a beloved teammate.

Kevin’s background in hockey played a crucial role in Brad’s development. His experience allowed him to guide his son’s game from an early age.

He was a former forward for the Dartmouth Arrows in the Metro Valley Junior Hockey League and played college hockey at Saint Mary’s University before transitioning into coaching.

On the other hand, Lynn brought balance to Brad’s upbringing with her academic background. She was a middle school teacher at Madeline Symonds Middle School.

The sacrifices they make and when you go on a journey as a team and you get to the Finals and you;re going on a run, it’s not just for you, it’s for everybody that helped you get here and all your loved ones that are enjoying the moment.

Brad Marchand Has An Inseparable Bond With His Younger Brother

Brad Marchand is known as one of the NHL’s most notorious players, but his younger brother, Jeff, is proof that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

The Marchand brothers share more than just a last name. They share a fiery competitive spirit, an unbreakable bond, and a history of on-ice and off-ice mischief.

Jeff carved out his reputation as a relentless competitor during his time in hockey.

He racked up 566 penalty minutes in just 155 games in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League before joining Saint Mary’s University.

However, he retired from his playing career, and Brad jokes that his retirement wasn’t entirely by his choice, as he was kicked out of all his beer leagues.

They were just one year apart and were nearly inseparable. They played on the same minor hockey teams and had each other’s backs.

We were best friends, always. In the younger days we would battle all the time. He would toughen me up and I would toughen him up. We’d fight like brothers but I remember the day he moved away to play hockey it was a pretty hard day for the whole family and it was my best friend moving away. I’ve always been a big supporter of him. Growing up with him was awesome. From day one we’ve been best friends.

Furthermore, Brad was always the first person to protect Jeff if he got hit by anybody. However, once they got home, Brad would beat Jeff himself.

Despite Brad’s NHL success, he insists Jeff was the more skilled player growing up. He even credits his younger brother for one of his signature moves, the five-hole move.

Nonetheless, the Marchands remain as close as ever and spend their off-seasons with their families.

Brad Marchand’s Sisters Crafted Their Own Mark

While Brad Marchand is a household name in the NHL, his sisters, Rebecca and Melissa Marchand, have been carving out their successful paths.

Although they share the Marchand competitive spirit, their careers shine in very different fields.

Rebecca has built an impressive career as a realtor in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

She celebrated a major milestone, earning multiple awards from Sutton Group Professional Realty, including Biggest Increase in Sales, No.1 Individual in Sales, and No.2 Overall in Sales.

Rebecca has an athletic background, similar to her brother, and played volleyball for Saint Mary’s University.

While Rebecca thrives in real estate, Melissa has pursued her passion for design. She specializes in custom embroidered toddler sweaters, blending creativity with craftsmanship.

Their work highlights a different side of the Marchand family’s talents, proving that their skills extend far beyond the ice.

  • Brad Marchand stands 175 cm and weighs about 180 lb.
  • He is the most suspended player in NHL history, in terms of individual suspensions.
  • He married the love of his life, Katrina Marchand, and has two daughters and a stepson.
  • As of 2025, his net worth is estimated at $30 million.
