The sports world is in mourning following the devastating news that Harun Šahinović, a beloved taekwondo and kickboxing athlete from Bosnia and Herzegovina, has tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident at the age of 26.
The accident occurred on the Jajce–Mrkonjić Grad highway, near the town of Kovačevac, where emergency responders arrived quickly but were unable to save him.
Harun passed away while en route to the Center Banja Luka hospital.
A Nation Mourns A Champion
Born in 1998 in Bužim, Harun Šahinović dedicated his life to martial arts and became a symbol of discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
He proudly represented Bosnia and Herzegovina in international taekwondo competitions, including the European ITF Championship recently held in his home country.
In addition to his accomplishments in taekwondo, Harun was a decorated kickboxer.
He has won two Continental Cup trophies, with his latest triumph just six weeks ago in Sarajevo.
Last year, he placed ninth at the World Cup, securing a win in the early stages.
Peers and coaches described him as a great athlete, fierce competitor, and inspiring human being; a role model for generations, particularly in the Krajina region, where young sports enthusiasts revered him.
A Heartfelt Farewell
Harun’s untimely demise has profoundly impacted his family, friends, and the sporting community.
Condolences have poured in from across the region and the global taekwondo fraternity, with the ITF Taekwon-Do Family expressing deep sorrow:

His funeral will take place on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., at the Zaradostovo family cemetery.
The funeral prayer will begin in front of Harun’s family home, and a large turnout of friends, neighbors, and fellow athletes is expected to attend this emotional farewell.
Harun is survived by his father Safet, mother Emira, grandmother (nane), brothers Omer and Sinan, sister Fatima, and many extended relatives, teammates, and coworkers from ES-Profil.
Gone Too Soon, Never Forgotten
With his passing, Bosnia and Herzegovina has lost a young ambassador of sport.
He was a man whose determination in the ring was matched only by his kindness and humility outside of it.
