In the NFL Kickoff Game against the Chiefs, Jackson passed Russell Wilson for the third-most career rushing yards for a quarterback.
Jackson finished with a perfect passer rating for the fourth time in his career, completing 16-of-19 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-10 victory in week 9.
Lamar Jackson’s Parents Always Believed In His Son’s Talent And Instilled Values of Hard Work
Lamar Jackson, 27, was born on January 7, 1997, in Pompano Beach, Florida, to his father, Lamar Jackson Sr., and his mother, Felicia Jones.
His early passion for football was nurtured by his father, Lamar Jackson Sr., a high school football coach who was instrumental in helping him realize his dream and assist him with training sessions.
Unfortunately, his father, Lamar Jackson Sr., passed away at 31 from a heart attack in 2005. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
At the time, Lamar was just eight years old. Some sources have claimed that his father died in a car accident.
Lamar referenced this tragedy during his acceptance speech for the Heisman Trophy in 2019.
On the same day, his grandmother Doris Denkins also left the world. However, the exact reason behind his grandmother’s passing has not been revealed yet.
Lamar has a tattoo of his grandmother’s name as a reminder of her.
His mother, Felicia, raised him and his siblings as a single mother. Felicia served as the manager of her son Lamar when he was drafted into the NFL in 2018.
Felicia has trained along with Lamar and prepared Jackson for his football career since childhood.
During the interview with ESPN, Felciai said that she was an athlete and used to play basketball in college.
Lamar calls his mother, Felicia, his best coach. To help him build his endurance, he and his mother ran together daily, regardless of the weather.
In 2016, Jackson wrote an essay for The Players’ Tribune detailing his rise to the NFL.
Specifically, he talked about how he grew into a better player, crediting his mother for much of his game. He wrote,
Lamar spent his first NFL paycheck on a new house for him and his mother. He might make headlines, but his mother prefers to keep her life private.
