However, Garland played and scored a goal on three shots in a 4-3 loss to the Rangers.
On the morning of 19 November, Vancouver Canucks’ coach Rick Tocchet mentioned that Garland might not be able to play as he was in the hospital.
It seemed like Garland might miss the game as he awaited the birth of his first child, but the baby hadn’t arrived by game time.
Garland played for almost 21 minutes, extending his point streak to three games (one goal and two assists). He went back to the hospital after the game.
Assuming his wife gives birth soon, Garland should be available for the start of the Canucks’ six-game road trip, which begins Saturday in Ottawa.
So far, he’s scored five goals, made nine assists, taken 38 shots on net, and has a plus-3 rating in 18 appearances.
Garland’s upcoming ‘dad strength’ could be just what the Canucks need to dominate their next game.
