Montana HS Rodeo Gage Holzum, 15, Dies In Accident Leaving His Parents Tyler And Jennifer Devastated

Gage was among the four people who died, and eight were injured after a 12-vehicle collision.

A Fromberg, Montana resident, Gage Holzum, has passed away in a tragic accident.

Gage Holzum was a well-respected member of the Montana rodeo community.

Holzum tied for second place in the team roping event with 35 points, showcasing his skill and dedication.

Montana HS Rodeo Gage Holzum Died In An Arizona Highway Accident

Gage Holzum passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 15, in a tragic accident. As per the reports, he was among the four people who died, and eight were injured after a 12-vehicle collision.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), state troopers responded to reports of a collision on Interstate 10 near milepost 89 shortly before 1 pm local time on Saturday.

The department said that “numerous vehicles caught fire following the collision.”

At this time, state troopers believe that the collision involved four passenger vehicles, six commercial motor vehicles, a van, and a recreational vehicle towing a trailer.

In addition to the four confirmed fatalities, two people are currently in critical condition and receiving “life-saving treatment.”

The AZDPS also shared that troopers are investigating whether blowing dust may have reduced road visibility and significantly affected the accident.

Montana High School Rodeo Association paid a small tribute to Gage Holzum through their official Facebook handle by stating,

All of us with the Montana High School Rodeo Association send our sincere condolences to the family of Gage Holzum. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are here for you whenever and however you need us.

Other close ones and relatives have also poured their heartfelt condolences and sent prayers to Holzum’s family to stay strong in this heartbreaking moment.

Gage Holzum’s Parents Are Mourning The Loss Of Their Son

Gage Holzum, 15, was born in 2009 in Fromberg, Montana, to his father, Tyler Holzum, and his mother, Jennifer Holzum.

In 2017, Gage went to Bolado Park all weekend with his parents for the Junior Rodeo. He was ready to go with his coat and “sunnies” at 7:00 am.

Gage got fourth in the barrel race in the first class but was a little frustrated with himself. His father gave him some small advice that helped.

“He said do good and don’t beat myself.”

Currently, Tyler and Jennifer are devastated by the tragic death of their son, Gage.

Tyler grew up in the saddle in Montana with two things on his mind and heart: Ranch and Rodeo.

The horse business paid for Tyler’s education, leading him to the place where he met his wife, Jennifer, who was also no stranger to the horse lifestyle.

Growing up in California, Jennifer shared the same horse passion for showing horses, rodeo, and working cattle as Tyler did.

After their marriage, they aligned their horse dreams, knowledge, and experience to create Holzum Quarter Horse on a 150-acre clover ranch in Oakdale, California.

In addition, Gage had a younger brother named Ty Holzum. They are the sixth generation of their family.

  • Gage Holzum’s horse, Thunder, died of colic in 2017. His parents gifted him a new horse named Machine Gun, and they got third in the Single Stake class.
  • Tyler’s grandmother, Audrey Wessinger Holzum, was born on March 31, 1915, to Phillip and Olive Wessinger in Absarokee and died on January 14, 2017, at 102.
  • Jennifer’s father, Albert John “Johnny” Roen, born in Oakdale, CA, on September 6, 1933, to Albert and Marie Roen, passed away on October 30, 2019.
