Pitt’s CB Mason Alexander Was Singlehandedly Raised By His Mother Kelly Harris After The Death Of His Father Johnny Alexander

His father, Johnny Alexander, was born in 1972 to John Hayes and Wanda Render.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, he was a passenger in a 2016 BMW driving south on Florida Road.

The driver tried to pass a 2015 Toyota before a hillcrest and twisted the steering to avoid a head-on collision with another vehicle traveling in the northbound lane.

Emergency personnel pronounced Alexander dead at around 9 p.m.

Alexander starred as a cornerback for Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers near Indianapolis and was an ESPN 300 recruit in the 2025 class.

He signed with Pitt in December, enrolled early, and was set to join the team for the start of spring practice this month. Pitt’s coach, Pat Narduzzi, paid a small tribute to Mason by stating,

“I received a call this morning that no parent, teacher or coach ever wants to get — the news of the sudden loss of a young and promising life,” “Our entire program is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Mason Alexander’s passing. “Mason had just enrolled at Pitt in January following his early graduation from Indiana’s Hamilton Southeastern High School. Even during that short time, he made a great impression on all of us. Mason was proud and excited to be a Panther, and we felt the same way about having him in our Pitt family. He will always be a Panther to us. The Alexander family and Mason’s many loved ones and friends will be in our prayers.”

“Mason lit up every room he was in. Brought joy and playfulness to everything and everyone. He could change the entire direction of your day with one interaction. Mason is the embodiment of exceptional. Rest Easy 15. Love forever.”

Mason Alexander’s Parents Reflect On Their Time At Warren Central High School

Mason Alexander, 18, was born in 2006 in Indianapolis, United States, to his father, Johnny Alexander, and his mother, Kelly Harris.

His father, Johnny Alexander, was born in 1972 to John Hayes and Wanda Render.

He graduated from Warren Central High School and was a self-employed entrepreneur.

Johnny inspired and supported Mason to build his football career. Mason had a special routine with his father, a tradition he looked forward to every Friday.

He would pick me up from school, then take me to the barbershop,” “We would get something to eat, go to my granny’s and go to sleep. It was like that every Friday.”

Sadly, Johnny passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at 43 due to the complications of a heart attack.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Living Wates Fellowship Church, 2902 E. 46th St., with calling from 10:00 a.m. to service time.

Following Johnny’s tragic death, Mason was singlehandedly raised by his mother, Kelly Harris, who also went to Warren Central High School and worked at Century 21 Real Estate.

Mason Alexander Grew Up With His 11 Siblings

Mason Alexander had 11 siblings: Jordon, Johntae, Yajaa, Aniyah, Airrion, Janai, Aliyah, Amani, Jai, Kennedy, and Andre.

Johntae recently took to his official Facebook handle and poured a small tribute to his brother Mason by stating,

This situation is definitely hard to take in but one thing i won’t do is question why this had to happen. I completely understand that this was an accident and not only was my family affected by this but others as well. Please take that into consideration when making these post At the end of the day, these were all kids doing kids shit and they just went wrong. Just pray for my family and the others affected by this tragedy.

Mason is also survived by his aunt, La Treassa Williams, and two uncles, Bryant Alexander and Dewayne Alexander.
