Tragedy struck at New Mexico’s Angel Fire Resort on February 8, 2025, when 21-year-old Koby Hunter of San Antonio, Texas, lost his life in a snowboarding accident.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on the Hully Gully ski run, which is located on the backside of the mountain.

Resort officials confirmed that the Angel Fire Ski Patrol, along with the Angel Fire Police Department and Fire/EMS Department, responded swiftly to the scene.

Emergency responders transported Hunter to an ambulance and attempted to transfer him to the Colfax County Angel Fire Airport.

They planned to life-flight him to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. Tragically, Hunter was pronounced deceased before transport.

Angel Fire Resort CEO John Kitts expressed the community’s grief in a statement:

“Angel Fire Resort and the entire Angel Fire community extend our deepest sympathies and support to the family and friends of our guest at this difficult time.”

The resort’s marketing manager, Michael Hawkins, noted that the cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Hunter was a beloved member of the Boerne High School community. He distinguished himself as a football tight end and basketball player.

The Boerne Independent School District Athletics department mourned his loss in a touching Facebook tribute, describing it as “tragic” and offering prayers to the Hunter family.

Kade Hunter, now married to London Reeh Hunter, has relocated to Lake Charles, Louisiana, though his roots remain in Comfort, Texas.

Kaylee Hunter has married Will James, becoming Kaylee James.

Kyra Hunter, the youngest sibling, followed in her mother’s academic footsteps after graduating from Boerne High School and attending Texas Tech University.
