Just four days before his death, the company had shared a GoFundMe fundraiser as the boxer was being treated for an intracranial hemorrhage.
Cooney sustained an injury during a British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) Celtic Super Featherweight title at Belfast’s Ulster Hall on Saturday, February 1.

He was knocked down once in the ninth round and subsequently taken to the hospital.
At the hospital, it was discovered that John had suffered an intracranial hemorrhage and underwent immediate surgery to alleviate the pressure on his brain.

I genuinely never wanted for any of this to happen just went out there to box I wish nothing but the very best for John an his family and hope he comes home safe an sound don’t actually know him myself but he seems like a really respectful and nice man what I do know is he’s a fit and strong young man.

John And Emmaleen Had Been Together Since Long Before The Start Of His Professional Career
John Cooney’s fiancée, Emmaleen, has been deeply affected by his passing. The couple had been together for an extended period.
John had proposed to Emmaleen in July 2022 on their trip to Italy. The couple had been planning for their wedding.
