Friends And Family Mourn The Loss Of Marc Landals

Karen Marcinkoski took a few days to process the sad news that her good friend, Marc Landals, passed away from cancer.

She read all the kind messages on Facebook and thought about what a great man he was.

Marc touched many lives, including his family, coworkers, friends, and even people he worked with as an umpire.

He didn’t like being the center of attention, so he’d be embarrassed by all the praise, but everyone knew he deserved it.

It’s taken me a couple days to process the news that my good friend, Marc Landals lost his battle with cancer yesterday morning. I’ve spend the past two days reading and re-reading all the messages left on several other Facebook pages and thinking “what a testament to this guy’s character and life!” He’s still inspiring us all through recalling our different memories and experiences with him – Familial, work-related, umpire colleagues, friends, acquaintances…so many lives he touched. What a wonderful way to be remembered. Marc was never comfortable with accolades or being the center of attention so he’d be touched but slightly embarrassed by it all; however, the rest of us all know how well deserved it is! There isn’t anyone who can ever take the place he held in our respective lives, but we can remember what he stood for and the example he was and try to emulate whenever possible. WWMD? or WWMS? Good questions to ask ourselves at the times we miss him the most. Thank you, Marc – so very much.

On December 28, 2024, Marc shared an update: his cancer had spread to his bones, including his right shoulder and clavicle, as well as continued growth in his lungs and chest.

Reflecting on his seven-year battle with cancer, Marc described the many surgeries, treatments, and even a clinical trial at MD Anderson in Houston.

He shared how exhaustion had made even simple daily tasks difficult and that he was now focused on pain management to improve his quality of life.

In closing, Marc mentioned that he had resigned from his position at Roy Hobbs Baseball because he could no longer fulfill the job responsibilities.

The cancer had taken yet another thing he loved, but he said that the love of his family and friends was something it could never take away.

He leaves behind his children, son Colin and daughter Emma, who are now mourning their loss.

Emma shared her heartfelt message, reflecting on the nearly seven years since her dad was first diagnosed with cancer.

She expressed immense gratitude for their family’s love and support back then, especially when a GoFundMe was set up to help with treatment costs and financial needs.

As an adult who has learned about financial responsibility, she recognized that asking for help now was the right choice to make things easier in the tough times ahead.

She expressed her gratitude to those who had already donated, shared the link, or showed support by liking and commenting on her dad’s posts.
