Former White Sox Manager, Jeff Torborg Is Survived By His Wife Suzie Barber Torborg And Three Kids

Jeff Torborg and his wife Suzie supported three scholarships for the Scarlet Knights’ baseball and softball programs.

Torborg, the former catcher who caught Sandy Koufax’s perfect game and the 1990 American League Manager of the Year with the Chicago White Sox, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 83.

“I am heartbroken,”  “My mentor and my friend has passed away. Someone who truly understood me and gave me a chance to lead, to be a captain. So much of my way of managing and being in a clubhouse came from him.”

Torbog was behind the plate for three no-hitters, the first with Koufax and the Los Angeles Dodgers for the perfect game against the Chicago Cubs in 1965.

Former White Sox manager Jeff Torborg and Suzie Barber Torborg, 83 started dating in high school and married on June 6, 1983, the day after they graduated from Rutgers.

Since the mid-90s, Jeff and Suzie have lived in Mountainside, New Jersey.

As per the source, the Dodgers gave Torborg and his wife a two-week paid honeymoon in Hawaii.

Suzie won a beauty pageant and became Miss New Jersey, competing in the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City at 18.

However, their happy married life tragically ended after 42 years following the death of Jeff Torborg.

Former American professional baseball catcher and manager Jeff Torborg and Suzie welcomed their first child, a son named Doug Todd Torborg, 60, on October 30, 1964.

The New York Yankees drafted Doug in the 27th round of the 1983 MLB June Amateur draft from Jonathan Dayton Regional High School and the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 27th round of the 1987 MLB June Amateur Draft from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Jeff and Suzie had their second child, a son, Gregory S. Torborg, 56, on October 26, 1968.

Gregory is a former baseball player drafted in the 30th round (744th overall) by the New York Yankees in 1986.
