Matt Barnes Was Arrested On Suspicion Of Domestic Violence Against His Ex-Wife Gloria Govan
Matt Barnes and Gloria Govan met when Govan was only 12-year-old.
After a few years apart, they reconnected when Barnes played near Govan’s hometown of Oakland. They started dating in 2006.
In 2010, Barnes was newly signed to the Lakers when he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence against Govan.
Police said they found signs of a fight in which both suffered injuries but concluded that Barnes had been the primary aggressor.
Govan denied these claims against Barnes, her fiance at the time. In a statement, she said,
“Any accusations of domestic violence are false. My fiancé, Matt Barnes, has never physically abused me or my family.”

The pair tied the knot in 2013 and welcomed two children, Carter Kelly Barnes, 16, and Isaiah Michael Barnes, 16.
They officially separated after two years of marriage. Matt and Gloria settled after she accused him of owing her over $250,000 in back support.
According to court documents, Gloria agreed to drop her battle against Matt over alleged unpaid support for their twin sons.
They settled the divorce in 2016, where Matt was to pay $10,000 a month.
Per their new deal, Matt agreed to pay Gloria $275,000. Matt paid Gloria $100,000 within five business days of the agreement being fully executed by the parties and the remaining $175,000 within 60 days of signing the deal.
The agreement stated that if Matt was more than 10 days later, liquidated damage would be added to $25,000 with interest.
Matt also paid Gloria an additional $25,000 for her attorney fees.
After the split, Gloria tied the knot with an American basketball coach, Derek Fisher, in 2021.
In December 2023, Gloria dragged Matt back to court, claiming he had refused to pay the entire $10,000 a month in support he was ordered to pay.
She said Matt owed her over $260,000 in back child support at the time of her filing.
Gloria added that Matt had decided to reduce the $10,000 monthly payments to $4,000 in 2020 without any agreement between them.

After separating from Gloria Govan, Matt Barnes started dating Anansa Sims, 46 in 2018 and engaged in 2022.
The couple welcomed their sons, Ashton Joseph Barnes and Austin Barnes, on December 8, 2018, and their daughter, Ashton Elizabeth Barnes, on October 3, 2024.
