JFKHS Wrestling Champ Michael Mills Passed Away While His Dog Brody Survived In Jones Beach Car Accident: Parents Mourn His Loss

Michael Mills, a member of the John F. Kennedy High Schools class of 2007, tragically passed away in a car accident on January 1, 2025.

He was one of John F. Kennedy High School (JFKHS) Bellmore’s most outstanding athletes of the past 30 years.

Mike, who hailed from Bellmore, New York, excelled in football, wrestling, and lacrosse.

He was brought up to the wrestling team as an 8th grader and helped the team achieve top 10 finishes, league championships, and a County finals appearance in 2007.

He had an impressive wrestling career with 101 wins and 58 losses.

Additionally, he was the 2007 Kujan Tournament Champion, the 2006 Sprig Gardner Champion, and the 2005 Cliff Clark Tournament Champion.

Michael Mills’ 13-5 win at 189 pounds was key in helping the Cougars return against Massapequa in the 2007 Nassau County Class A Dual Meet Tournament.

His victory helped spark a comeback from a 20-6 deficit.

Cheryl Gerry Mills Took Facebook To Share Her Misery Of Losing Son Michael Mills, AKA Mike

Michael Mills, 35, sadly lost his life when his car went off the road near the traffic circle at Jones Beach, New York.

Authorities arrived at the Jones Beach State Park Central Mall, where they discovered the vehicle had left the roadway at the traffic circle.

Similarly, Michael’s mother, Cheryl Gerry Mills, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook about how much she will miss his smile, sense of humor, and love he showed her.

She recalled their last conversation on New Year’s morning, where he told her she was the best thing in his life, never imagining that he would leave them that night.

She also updated the details for his funeral service on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Chapey Funeral Home in West Islip, NY, where the visitation is set from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm.

Andrew Zang remembered Mike by sharing how Mike danced at his wedding and always pushed him to be better, both on the field and on the mat.

He said Mike taught him resilience and will always be loved by him and the Mills family. Mike will forever be in their hearts.

An animal foster group called One Love Dog Rescue shared their sadness over the passing of Michael Mills, one of their adopters.

It also said that Mike had adopted Brody five years ago, and they became best friends.

At the same time, a family member, Janet Schmidt, shared that Mike Mills loved his rescued dog, Brody, which he adopted with his girlfriend, Jackie Mattera.

Mike’s Facebook page is filled with photos and posts of Brody. It’s clear that Brody was a beloved part of Mike’s life, and many memories with him are now part of the page’s feed.
