Thomas Rush Propst began playing football as a wide receiver and defensive back at Ohatchee High School. Later, he attended Jacksonville State University (JSU).
He became a student assistant at Ohatchee in 1977 and served eight years as an assistant coach at Cleburne County High School, Ashville High School, and Cherokee High School.
He won five state championships and 110 games coaching at the Hoover. His team was one of the top-ranked teams in the United States, and he coached there for nine years.
Rush was named head coach at Colquitt County High School on January 30, 2008, and led his team to the 2010 GHSA Class 5A State Championship Game.
His team won the 2014 1-AAAAAA State Championship, his first state title in Georgia, after defeating Archer High School on December 13, 2014.
However, he left Colquitt County following the 2018 season and spent a year as a volunteer assistant coach at the UAB Blazers football team.

Tammy had a severe car accident in 1994, where she nearly died. She flipped her car with their two children in the backseat.
Luckily, her children walked away, but she suffered numerous skull fractures and severe damage to the frontal lobe of her brain that kept her three months in the hospital.
Later, she moved in with her parents and spent most of her time at a rehabilitation facility, learning to walk, talk, and eat.
She returned home nearly after a year, and she was getting better by the time the married couple moved to Mobile in 1997.
Tammy believed her marriage was improving but urged Rush to prove his commitment to their relationship by putting family before football.
She was frustrated when Rush told her about his plan to accept the Hoover job. He knew accepting the job at Hoover meant choosing football over family and another woman over his wife.
