GSCO said the incident is isolated, and a h*micide investigation is active and ongoing.

Overton’s former Clemson teammate, Amari Rodgers, posted an emotional tribute to him. He wrote,

After his time at Clemson, he spent several years at the professional level, briefly with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the European Football League’s Vienna Vikings.

A 20-year-old man from Michigan has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of former Clemson football player Diondre Overton.

Jeremiah Diago Blanks is accused of fatally shooting Overton, and authorities say he was apprehended in Michigan with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service.

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that detectives traveled to Michigan to arrest Blanks, currently held in the Oakland County Jail in Pontiac, Michigan, and awaiting extradition to North Carolina.

Details about Blanks and the possible motive for the crime have not been revealed.

Former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton was born in Greensboro on April 19, 1998, to parents who were essential in his personal and athletic development.

Although Overton hasn’t revealed his parent’s names, it is known that his mother is a social worker.

His dedication to studies was inspired by his mother, Sandra Grace, a social worker who instilled the importance of education.

Moreover, Overton imagined combining his love for sports with his desire to mentor young people, drawing from his upbringing around his mother’s work in social services.
