Alex currently plays lacrosse for Queens University of Charlotte.

Pete Alonso’s parents supported him from a young age in achieving his athletic dreams.

A new report from a top MLB insider suggests that the New York Mets are not interested in bringing first baseman Pete Alonso back for 2025 and beyond.

Highlights

  • MLB insider hinted that the New York Mets are not interested in bringing Pete Alonso back in 2025.
  • He was born to his father, Peter Matthew Alonso, and his mother, Michelle Lynn Alonso.
  • Alonso was raised along with his younger brother, Alex Alonso.

For many younger Mets fans, Pete Alonso is one of their favorite New York players of all time.

He made a massive splash in his rookie season when he slugged 53 home runs in 2019 and earned All-Star honors that year.

Pete Alonso has done so three more times since, including in 2024.

However, despite seeming like a no-brainer to ensure the homegrown star is locked into a new long-term deal, he and the organization have struggled to make up any ground on a potential contract.

New team president David Stearns is big into stats and trends, and there is evidence that investing big in a slugging first baseman after age 30 is a risk.

Nevertheless, after the fan-favorite played well in the team’s magical playoff run, it looked a bit more likely that he would return in 2025 and beyond.

But on Sunday, December 8, 2024, MLB insider Bob Nightengale made it seem that Alonso’s days in New York were over.

Pete Alonso’s Parents Let Him Try To Prepare His Meal From Young Age

American Baseball First Baseman Pete Alonso, 30, was born on December 7, 1994, in Tampa, Florida, to his father, Peter Matthew Alonso, and his mother, Michelle Lynn Alonso.

His father, Peter, is the son of Spanish refugees who fled Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War and moved to Queens, a borough of New York City, but later settled in Lancaster, Ohio.

Peter is one of four children born to Anna Pirraglia, an Italian mother, and Peter Conrad Alonson, a Spanish father.

He was born in Long Island and raised in Lancaster with three sisters, Bernadette, Pier, and Alicia.

On the other hand, his mother, Michelle Lynn Alonso, played college softball at Ohio Wesleyan University. He shares a close bond with his mother.

On May 12, 2019, Pete wished Michelle a happy Mother’s Day through his official Instagram handle with the caption,

Happy Mother’s Day!!!!! I’m so damn lucky that you will always be my mom. Love you so much

Earlier in 2021, on his mother Michelle’s birthday, Alonso made sure not to disappoint, cranking an opposite-field grand slam over the fence in right-center in the Mets’ 8-4 win. Later, Alonso said,

“Big shoutout, Happy Birthday, Mom,” “Glad I could get a birthday bomb for you.”

Pete’s parents first met in high school and moved to Florida after getting married.

Peter and Michelle have permanently bonded over meals cooked in the kitchen or on the grill. Pete feels happy that his parents let him try to prepare his own meals from a young age.

In addition to his parents, who supported his passion for cooking and food, his grandparents also influenced him. His grandfather had an elevated sense of European cuisine.

His grandfather Morgan was also a dedicated outdoorsman, and when Pete was young, he and his grandfather spent much time in the woods fishing together.

Morgan taught Pete how to tie and bait a hook, row a boat, shoot a gun and a bow and arrow, clean a turtle, and scale and clean a fish.

Pete Alonso And His Family Holds Spanish-American Ethnicity

Although Pete Alonso was born and raised in the United States, his father is of Spanish ethnicity, and his mother is of white American ethnicity.

His mother’s side of the family has been in the United States since the American Revolution. They were blue-collar and spent a lot of time on the farm.

Therefore, Alonso is of Spanish-American ethnicity and celebrates Spanish and American culture and festivals. He speaks Spanish while talking with his grandfather.

He grew up with his brother, Alex Alonso, 26, who is five years younger than him. While Pete is a sporting Baseball icon, Alex has chosen another path.

Alex currently plays lacrosse for Queens University of Charlotte. However, they support each other in their sporting career.

Pete has traveled extensively with his family. He has said,

“We take family trips. We all work hard, but we play together. It was always important for us to have fun together,”
