Troy, New York, Dubar Knowles was a ninth grader at Schenectady High School who lost his life during a shootout on October 13, 2024 in Schenectady.
His parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, and uncle survived him.

At approximately 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to several gunshot reports in the 1100 block of Congress Street, where they believed a party was going on.
A large crowd of people fled on foot when authorities arrived and found Dubar with a gunshot wound to the torso in the backyard.
Similarly, they also found a 13-year-old girl suffering a gunshot wound to the head/neck area a few blocks away from the party on Chrisler Avenue.
They treated both victims before they were transported to local hospitals. Sadly, Dubar passed away in the hospital early Sunday morning.
The injured girl, a student at Oneida Middle School, was in a stable condition, and officers are continuing to investigate. Neighbors describe the street as noisy and a scene of past criminal activity.
Dubar Knowles’s Family Mourns The Tragic Loss
Dubar Knowles, the son of Terrence Knowles and Tyesha Murray, was born on April 4, 2009, in Troy, New York. His parents named him Dubar Tyreek Knowles.
He was a talented athlete and a beloved young person who enjoyed hanging around with his siblings and friends. He played football and basketball.

Dubar’s parents raised him alongside his siblings, three sisters, Shamecca, D’Asia, Tye’Asia Knowles, and Medina Knowles, and one brother, Shaborn Macon.
Sadly, Medina, who also studied at Schenectady High School, lost her life at 17 during a shooting in 2016. Her killer was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
Similarly, Dubar’s unexpected passing deeply saddened his family, and all his family members undoubtedly missed him and his sister.
As a beloved figure in the family, he left his family members to cherish his memory and mourn his passing. His grandfather, Charles Murray, and great-grandmother, Betty Murray, passed away before him.
His grandparents, Winston & Denise Goodman of Phoenix City, Gloria Knowles of Milledgeville, and great-grandfather James Murray of Troy, were broken by his tragic news.
In addition, his aunts, Koqkrece Alexander, Brenda McElroy, Terri Holmes, and uncles, James Murray, Charles Knowles, and Marcus Goodman, survive him.
Dubar also had nieces and nephews Jasiy, Kyeem, Kyziere, and Kyasia.
Authorities Arrested A 16-Year-Old Boy In Connection To Dubar Knowles’s Shooting
Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection to a shooting at a party in Schenectady in October 2024.
He was arrested on January 27, 2025, and remanded at the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility pending future court proceedings.

Dubar’s shooter, who is identified as D.S. in the news release, faced second-degree murder, assault, and criminal possession of weapon charges.
Likewise, he was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and tampering with physical evidence.
According to the officials, the accused shot Dubar in the chest at the party, and the bullet traveled through his body and then struck a 13-year-old girl in the back of her head.
State Police DNA testing proved that the bullet that wounded her was the same one that took Dubar’s life.
Luckily, the Oneida Middle School girl underwent emergency surgery and has largely recovered.
